In Cusco there are different companies that are promoting the Ausangate route as a trekking and adventure route, it has among its purpose that visitors manage to surround the Ausangate mountain, although still to date, few visitors have dared to follow it and complete this route. Those who are interested in climbing this snowy mountain, must know that they must have had enough time of previous practice since the Apu Ausangate is not a snowy mountain for beginners or people who do not have the proper experience, so if you is an intermediate level mountaineer, it is recommended to go in the company of an experienced guide in the field to avoid any complications.
This snowy mountain is also important at a traditional local tourist level, due to the great annual festival in honor of the Lord of «Qoyllurritti», an Andean Christian celebration, which takes place at the foot of the snowy peak during the months of May to June and which venerates the rock christ that appeared in the year 1780 to which large numbers of people come to the Sacred Apu to worship him, along with typical dances and local people from all parts of the city of Cusco as well as visitors from other regions of our country.
It is recommended to visit the snowy mountain between the months of April to November, which is the season when there are not many rains and you can take better advantage of the landscapes, in order to enjoy more of the beauty of the place and the activities it offers.
Why choose the Salkantay to Inca Trail Tour?
The Ausangate Trek is listed as one of the best treks in Peru, in addition to not being so popular.
Ausangate is definitely one of the best hikes you will find in Cusco, if you want to know the highest mountain in the region.
Ausangate is located in the second longest mountain range in Peru, the Vilcanota mountain range.
