Sillustani is a site surrounded by a landscape of striking beauty that stands out for its large buildings called “chullpas” (species of stone towers), built by the Qolla culture that were settled in the town of Hatunqolla.

Its location is 34 km to the north-west of the city of Puno (50 minutes by road) and at an altitude of 3,840 meters above sea level.

The archaeological site of Sillustani is a cemetery that was built in the 12th century by the Qolla civilization that occupied the area before the Inca rule. The most imposing towers were built for the important chiefs and priests. These ancient civilizations considered cemeteries places of rest and rebirth, so they chose beautiful places to build their cemeteries and these were considered sacred places.

It is a magical place that envelops you with its energy and full of peace and harmony due to the unique landscape surrounded by mountains that are reflected in the mirror of the Umayo lagoon.

Location

The archaeological site of Sillustani is located 34 km away from the city of Puno (35 minutes by road) and at an altitude of 3,840 meters above sea level.

About the impressive Chullpas

Many of these sacred chullpas reach approximately 12 meters in height and have an entrance always directed towards the east that was used for the deceased to communicate directly with the Sun God. This entrance is quite small, so it is believed that the bundle funerary or mummy was first introduced to the vault and then it was closed. Apparently, in Sillustani, nobles, rulers and priests were buried. The upper part of the most modern chullpas, those that belonged to the Inca period, are adorned by large cornices. On the other hand, some of the stones present figures in low relief that mainly represent lizards and snakes.

Attractions

What predominates most are the natural landscapes with which time left us, in the surroundings you can see the Umayo lagoon, but the most outstanding thing about this place is the cemetery that was built in the 12th century by a civilization that occupied the area. before the Inca domain.

Perfeito!!!!!

As Vans eram confortáveis.

TOUR 7 LAGUNAS CON DIEGO GO!
